At some point when you own a home with kitchen cabinets, you might consider the fact that if your cabinets are sufficiently sturdy it is almost always the case that painting them is going to be more cost-effective than tearing them out of the wall and replacing them.
That being true, there are ways and methods for you to stretch your dollar even further just by considering ways that you can save money even while you are doing something that fundamentally is saving you money.
It might not make too much sense that you would necessarily have to clean your kitchen cabinets before you paint them, seeing that you are about to paint them.
This is a misconception, however — the surface of the cabinets should be properly cleaned before you begin painting as you don’t want to apply the paint to dirt or the grease that can often found on a kitchen cabinet that is in even a moderately used kitchen.
By cleaning the cabinets you’ll be saving money in that you won’t have to start painting only to find that you have made a mess and have to start all over again.
When people go to a paint store they will sometimes want to ask for a specific shade of paint and they will give the instructions to the store for how the shade should look.
When the store subsequently presents them with the paint, they are not obligated to pay for it and in fact, can say they are not interested in buying the paint and get something else.
Seeing as the paint is so very specific, the store can’t well sell it at full price, and here is where you come in — you can get the paint at a discount.
Mind you, you won’t really have any choice in what color you get but as long as you are flexible, you can get a good deal on it!
Of course, you’re not going to want to get things like paint rollers and paintbrushes at lower price places — unless the things are normally priced higher and happen to be getting sold at a discount.
Rather, you are going to want to see what kinds of protective supplies you can find at dollar stores — things like the vinyl sheets that people can sometimes use to cover their tables that can also be used to cover various areas in your kitchen near where you are painting.
By shopping the discount stores for these sorts of things, you will lower the price of your overall painting project.
Let’s face it — this very well may be the only time you take on a painting project in your home, or it may be years before you think about doing it again.
If you have any friends that happen to be more crafty and enjoy spending weekends remodeling their homes or even helping paint with others, you may want to ask if you can borrow such sturdy and reusable things like paint rollers and paintbrushes and even the stronger things like sprayers.
The savings you can get just from this alone can go a long way.
It probably doesn’t seem like something that’s going to save you money — planning out your project — yet that’s exactly what it does.
By knowing how long you have to wait for various things to dry (such as after you apply a coat of primer, for example) you know how much time you have to do other things that aren’t related to the painting project, and that in itself is a money saver.
This is of course because time is valuable, and just sitting around literally watching paint dry is one of the biggest wastes of time there is.
